World Skills Competition 2022 Tom Clancy

The World Skills - Refrigeration and Air Conditioning competition was held at Chillventa in Nuremberg, Germany, in late 2022. Tom Clancy, a Western Australian refrigeration and air conditioning specialist, placed 10th overall.

Tom participated in this fiercely competitive contest alongside sixteen other young experts from around the world to show his technical prowess.
Building growing economies, vibrant communities, and self-assured citizens of society all depends on skills and trades. Because of this, institutions like WorldSkills Australia are crucial not just in Australia but also globally. Through regional, national, and worldwide skills competitions, WorldSkills Australia primarily encourages excellence in skills in Australia. Australia’s thirty-four regions host more than 500 regional contests every two years.
Tom had the chance to compete in the regional WorldSkills competition at the Perth Convention Centre in 2019 on behalf of Western Australia. Tom was a difficult competitor to compete against because of his technical background in commercial refrigeration service, maintenance, and installation along with a two-year apprenticeship in service and maintenance handling supermarket breakdowns and preventable maintenance. Due in part to one of our distributors, Kirby HVAC&R, who sponsored the national tournament, he was unstoppable and placed third.Testo encourages all aspiring technicians to attend their local WorldSkills event since we support the advancement of skills excellence in HVAC&R through these unique activities.
We congratulate Tom and send him our best wishes for a successful future.

Five months before the competition, Tom began practising every Friday at the South Metropolitan TAFE (Carlisle) to get ready for the international portion of the contest.
Tom and his rivals had to complete difficult tasks like fabrication, refrigeration installation, and electrical and refrigeration problem identification during the competition.
His commitment and perseverance during training paid off; at the international tournament in 2022, he was ranked number 10. Tom had the chance to return to WorldSkills Australia’s regional and national competitions as a judge thanks to the recognition he gained from the international competition.
Tom takes great pride in having represented himself and his sponsors on a global scale.
